Site Security
It is in your interests to take care of your property. One of the main
reasons for this is to avoid any unnecessary delays in the completion
of your build.
In view of this, Project Builder makes the following suggestions which
will reduce your risks:
- The Storage of attractive materials or equipment should be kept to a minimum on site. Where such goods are kept, they should be in purpose built site huts of steel construction with good locking devices and without windows or roof lights. Doors should be secured by a 5 lever mortice deadlock or 5 lever close shackle padlock used with a locking bar and stable bolted through the door and frame.
- If there are windows they should be protected by substantial grilles and shutters. A specially designed tool vault can be purchased for valuable or attractive tools and equipment.
- Where possible, all site huts and materials and equipment should be kept within a compound of suitable chain link fencing topped with barbed wire. Gates should be substantial and well secured by case hardened chains and close shackle padlocks and it should not be possible to remove the hinges or to lift the gates off the hinges.
- If feasible, the compound should be visable to passing police patrols. This may need some form of lighting to cover the compound.
- Vehicles and mobile plant and other valuable equipment should be tagged or otherwise marked with owner's name. If possible they should be locked in a secure compound, ignition keys removed to a safe place and if possible a further means of immobilisation should be provided.
- For large items of plant, i.e. Mobile Equipment such as JCB's, consideration should be given to the installation of the "Tracker" device currently on the market through the Automobile Association.
- A modern audible alarm system is a great deterrent to thieves. The system should be purchased from an alarm company with servicing facilities thoughout the country and checked/maintained at least every six months.
